My Spectacular Whale’s Journey
By Alice, age 10
Day 1… 🐟
On the very first day of my migration journey, Chiara, one of my ultimately close besties, and I made sure to stick together as much as possible. We both showed each other what we packed for our migration journey, and squealed in delight. We flicked our tails in excitement when we found out that Lyla was coming too! We swam out into the ocean, energised and ready for the journey ahead of us!! We decided to make sure we got to have heaps, and heaps, of pit stops, to talk and learn about lots of sea creatures. We wondered what types of sea creatures we would find, and maybe even get to meet, as we went deeper into the fascinating ocean!! Lyla was hoping we would get to meet a few seahorses, as she found them quite interesting and wanted to learn more about them! I find Jellyfish really enchanting, and I've always wanted to meet or see one!! Chiara admitted that she had always been engrossed in everything to do with turtles, and really would appreciate being able to meet one and was determined to master everything about them.
Days 2-4🐚
Today, we actually got to meet a seahorse!!! It was so charming, and guess what… we were most delighted to find out that it had the most talkative personality! She even taught us all about her life cycle and what type of food she enjoys! She even agreed to stay with us for a few days and then she would have to be off back to her family home. We loved meeting her and loved finding out lots about her, and were quite upset when we had to say our final goodbyes. We also found some jellyfish on the 3rd day, and they were in a group of friends, like us! They were rather keen, to chat a bit about their interests, hobbies, and what they love most to do for fun!! We also met some turtles! Exactly what Chiara was keen to finally see!! She was super pumped to meet the turtles and learn a lot more about them!! Most of all I had the most fun making new discoveries about where turtles get their extraordinarily beautiful colours from! Apparently, they get their colours from their herbivorous diet, which includes mainly seagrasses and algae! This is responsible for their extraordinary coloration!
Days 5-9🐋
We found lots of coral while we were travelling, the colours were enchantingly beautiful! The colours were rather intriguing, some reds, purples, blues, and greens! There were also lots of dolphins diving and jumping out of the water! We also even found some octopus, and even found all about their suction cups, and what they use them for! Apparently, their suction cups are used to pry open and obliterate clams, crabs, and other sea life! So cool I know! We also were actually mostly convinced to try diving out of the water delicately, we all agreed that it was extremely fun! Also, we agreed that next time we took the same route, to Warrnambool, that we would practise diving and jumping daintily, out of the water, like those captivating dolphins.
Days 10-14
Today we discovered a large ship, full of those interesting humans. Definitely looks like a cruise or something like that. We tried to overtake the large ship by going around it, but Chiara and I got separated from Lyla! We were devastated! We started looking immediately, and were shell shocked, when we couldn't find any trace of her!! We were appalled, we became sadder, and sadder, as we kept looking for Lyla as she was our most spectacularly special best friend!! I was feeling very distressed, and Chiara even admitted that she was feeling quite disheartened, but she decided to keep pushing on anyway, and resume the search even with the impact of what her disheartened feelings were doing to her. I also felt quite similar to Chiara.
Days 15-17
After a day and a half looking for Lyla, we still haven't found any trace of her, and we were losing hope quickly. We continued the search, by singing out for Lyla, and we heard a little, small, echo back! That sounded like our friend Lyla. We started to gain hope, as we did, we started to sing out for her again and a deeper stronger voice sang back to us! We were puzzled. We heard some sort of whale or sea creature swimming our way. The whale that had the deeper voice, swam over to us, and introduced himself. Politely, we introduced ourselves and bowed. He admitted that he knew who we were calling out for, and that he knew the exact thing that would help us! He led us straight to Lyla!!
Days 18-22
We were so very grateful for the whale's kindness. We would never forget what he did for us. Before we even allowed the whale to leave, we thanked him rather profusely. We also had and I mean HAD to tell the gentleman that his kindness was quite special, and that we had no idea how to repay him, but surely they’d find a way to, and would do anything to repay him for his remarkably extraordinary kindness. We were actually really upset when we had to politely let him go on his journey as he was going to Portland, which was expected in eight days, and couldn't be late. After all, he did stay for a day and a half to look after and nurture us with kindness and love, and care, so he would know that we were going to be alright to be going on with the rest of our migration journey. We really did appreciate his kindness.
Days 23-27
Chiara and I were so relieved and excited that we were able to see Lyla again! Lyla was excited to reunite with us again after all this time she spent trying to find us, and all the time we spent trying to find her. But anyways, guess who/what we met next?
Another blue whale, almost identical to us! We were so excited to meet her, and she was even more excited to see me, as she is my older sister! She wasn't that much older than us, and she introduced herself to the others and said that she was 14 years old, as we had our twelfth birthday this year. She said that she told her besties that she was going to find her younger sister. We all kept swimming for hours on end, barely ever stopping for a rest or a break. She said that her name was Ruby.
Days 28-31
Even though Chiara and Lyla only just met my older sister, Ruby, they even admitted that they really liked her, and apparently, they even wished that they had a sibling like Ruby! We all agreed that in order to not get lost or get split up like when Chiara and I got separated from Lyla, we would stick together at all times, if not, as much as possible. As the days went on, Lyla and Chiara began to think of Ruby as their own sister, I guess. We were all kind of excited at the thought of being able to meet so many new and different sea creatures. Ruby began telling all of us about her interestingly intriguing experiences, when she was around our age, and went on her very first migration journey to Warrnambool!
Days 32-35
Today was an amazing day! Guess who we finally got to meet?? Too late, I can't wait!!! OMG!! We finally got to meet our favourite author David Whaleums!! OMGG! We even got his signature on Chiara Lyla, Ruby, and my favourite David Whaleums book!! Omg, it was so magical! I grabbed out my Fin 2000 phone, the best of the model! I opened Insta Whale, and messaged my dad about how great of a time I was having, and took a quick selfie with David Whaleums, which I appreciated, and sent it to him immediately. He replied within minutes, glad I was having such a great time and said that he was happy for me. Guess what though? We were even lucky enough to meet David Whaleums own son!! I’m pretty sure he said his son’s name was Noah Whaleums or something!! We were having such an awesome time with David Whaleums and his son Noah!
Days 36- 40
We all started feeling really really hungry, so in order to pursue that satisfaction, we were looking for food and gathering lots and lots of food, for about a day and a half.
Mmmmmmmm! Just thinking about it made me feel a lot hungrier than before! I can literally imagine the explicit taste, omg it's so hard to resist! FINALLY, about half an hour later we had found a LOAAAD of FOOOD! Chiara and Lyla had gathered a good amount of plankton, and krill, while on the other hand, Ruby and I had managed to find a different type of plankton! We had found Zooplankton, and a lot of squid. YUUM! This feast was going to be incredibly tasty! We put our deliciously captivating findings on top of a dull, hard, rugged rock. We devoured our appetising food that we worked so hard to find. After we had finished our tasty meal, we kept going and eventually a school of fish which we consumed noisily.
Days 41- 43
Stomp! Stomp! Stomp! I wondered what on earth it could be. I could make out a shadow of something like a Plesiosaurus! So cool, I actually never thought that we would ever even have a CHANCE of seeing these underwater dinosaurs. There were also heaps more dinosaurs, such as the Mosasaurs, the Mosasaurus, and the Megladon!! So cool! ROOOAAR!!! Not so cool…! What on earth is it doing though? I am curious. I later worked out that it was actually, and surprisingly trying to communicate with us. ROOOAARR!!! There it goes again! Hmmmmmm. Huh?? We decided to sing out to them, so we did. We sang out and out to them, as theory ignored us, or so we thought, but maybe they couldn't hear us?? OH OH OH OMG!!! THEY TALK WHALE!! Guess what they told us though? They told us to stay calm, and that they would not eat us thankfully! Phew! They also said that they apparently had to go, as they had to continue their journey to Portland.
Days 44-47
Before the dinosaurs left, they even allowed me to get a selfie with them!! OMGGGG!!! The size difference is massive haha! I immediately went onto Instawhale, and sent it the group chat of Dad and Rachel, who were both just as puzzled as we were. I bet you thought that the underwater dinosaurs were really cool but guess what else we saw?? A family of SEA ANGELS! They were actually so very cute! Awww! We had absolutely never even expected to see a family of SEA ANGELS!! We absolutely loved the family, and them actually making the effort to spend time with us, and not just basically saying ‘hi’ and ‘bye’, and it was just so COOL!! Most of them were silent, but the apparent leader actually came up to us and asked us if it was alright if they could actually stick around and hang out with us, so we obviously agreed that it was completely fine if they stayed longer! We obviously wanted to hang with some really cool sea angles. As we started to hang out with them, we actually grew to love Angel Fish. We weren't actually very fond of them before we had met them! So it was an incredibly cool experience to have.
Days 48-51
We were just swimming around the deep blue sea, and I had to pause for a second, because I had an important text on Instawhale, from Rachel. Apparently, she was just wondering how my migration journey was going, according to what she had asked me, so I just texted her that it was going fantastically awesome, and sent a few fun pictures of us and my besties so far. We kept swimming around, pretty natural. But guess what? Next within seconds, we spotted a spotted black whale, with a white underbelly!!! I’m pretty sure it’s an Orca!!! It’s only young, like us, as well! We introduced ourselves, and the Orca did too. Apparently, her name was Stella, and that she was surprised that we weren't scared of her, because everyone always thinks that because she was an Orca, that makes her a cold blooded killer! She also informed, that she was only 9 years old. For the next few days we managed to keep her alive, and well fed. We even managed to find her own mother, and surprisingly, they reunited? Later, when we were saying our goodbyes, the pair explained that they got separated when they set off to go on their migration journey.
Days 52-53
We arrived at Warrnambool, hyped to meet our excited families! There were lots of cameras pointed in our direction, and a few smaller humans squealing at sight of us. We arrived quickly to our individual homes. As soon as I arrived at my own home, Rachel surprised me with what she said. Apparently, to celebrate Chiara, Lyla, and My very first migration journey, we were all going to have a very special dinner feast! We were going to have an almighty feast on chips and squid, and plankton sundae,(even though it’s not Sunday!)
We were also having multiple krill sandwiches, roasted cod, and lastly, mini squid cakes!! YUUUUUUUM! All of the other parents basically said the same thing to their kid or kids. It was to be held at Chiara’s underwater house! We swam there straight away to feast on all of the delicious findings. When we finished swimming there, we all greeted each other, and laid down on the ice blue carpet. We all started to feast on the most delicious feast I had ever heard of or eaten, and as soon as basically everyone arrived.
