Stuck for ideas?
Are you feeling creative and want to contribute to Kelp but you’re stuck for ideas?
You’ve come to the right place…
Inspiration can come from anywhere - you just need to look at things closely or wonder about something in a different way.
At Kelp Magazine, we love getting outside. Go for a walk, head to the beach or even just find a tree to sit under in your backyard. Give yourself the time to really notice what’s around you and wonder about it. Then see if anything you notice gives you ideas to draw, or write, or even take a photograph.
Here’s a whole bunch of ideas to get your creativity flowing. We’ll update these regularly, so keep checking in!
Draw
Nature Journalling
Grab a piece of paper, something to lean on and a pencil and go outside or to the beach or park. Choose an object, maybe some seaweed, a leaf, or a beautiful piece of driftwood. Hold the object in your hand and really notice what you see - all the beautiful details.
Now have a go at drawing the object, taking your time as you do. Maybe you’d like to label what you’ve drawn, or colour it with pencils or paints.
Write
A short story
Plan out a storyline inspired by the beautiful place we live. Maybe all the seaweed suddenly disappears from the beach. Or the ocean turns pink! Whatever your amazing imagination can come up with. Write your story out and you might even like to draw some illustrations to go with it!
A funny letter
Write a love letter to your favourite place in Warrnambool. For example, Dear Thunder Point, you are so beautiful. I really love the way the waves crash onto your rocks. Last week I went for a walk along your lovely path and saw lots of birds. Thank you for being so stunning!
A poem
Have a go at writing a poem that rhymes, or a Haiku or an acrostic poem.
Photograph
If you’re visiting the beach, ask a parent if you can borrow their camera (or use an old one you might have at home) and make a picture on the sand using seaweed. Take a photograph of it and send it in!
